As we age, comfort and familiarity are important. With many seniors on a limited fixed income, necessary home repairs can be a struggle.

Community Action of Southeast Iowa partners with Milestones Area Agency on Aging to do minor needed repairs to aid seniors being able to remain in their homes. Funding may be available for safety repairs and modifications to allow home owning seniors to safely remain in their residence. Applications are taken for those over 60 who are low income.

Contact your local center with your needs, for program details, and application.

After a completed application is submitted the following step is for an employee of Community Action of Southeast Iowa to visit the home to assess the need. If approved, work may be done by certified local contractors.

Funding for cosmetic repairs is not available.

One client’s experience:

*Jane noticed her toilet had become wobbly and was leaking. Being on a fixed income and not having the money to get it repaired, she called Community Action for help. As a homeowner over the age of 60, she applied for the Senior Home Repair Program and qualified. Jim with Community Action scheduled a time with *Jane to come look at the bathroom issues. Unbeknownst to her, the toilet had been leaking under the linoleum flooring for quite some time. By the time she noticed it being wobbly, the bolts had rusted and broken off and the flooring directly around the toilet had started rotting.

Community Action’s Senior Home Repair Program was able to get the rotting floor fixed, a new toilet flange and hardware installed, an A.D.A. (Americans with Disabilities Act) approved toilet to replace her standard toilet, and put in new vinyl flooring.

“Thank you Community Action. I’m on a fixed income and I never would have been able to get this taken care of without you.” – *Jane
