Poverty and Poor Health

“Social Determinates of Health (SDOH) have been shown to have a greater influence on health than either genetic factors or access to healthcare services. For example, poverty is highly correlated with poorer health outcomes and higher risk of premature death.” – Center for Disease Control, CDC

SDOH include, but are not limited to:

  • Food insecurity,
  • Social isolation,
  • Housing stability,
  • Transportation,
  • Physical activity,
  • Economic stability,
  • Employment,
  • Education,
  • Access to healthcare,
  • Mental health access.

“…there are dramatic differences in health that are closely linked with degrees of social disadvantage.” – World Health Organization, WHO
