Executive Director Sheri Wilson, Center Director Lisa Nafziger, and Planning Director Rachel Albrecht attended the Annual ICAA Conference. All three came back with new ideas having made connections and learned. Ongoing learning is so important for all of us.
We are a Community Action Agency because we receive federal dollars from the Community Services Block Grant. Three through five year old’s in Head Start are out of school for the summer, but that doesn’t mean things are slacking around here. We continue to offer many assistance programs through the summer months and Head Start staff is gearing up for a great start to the new school year come fall.
Above is a report on some of our activities for the month of May. Each month through Community Action of Southeast Iowa lives are impacted, people are changed, partnerships are built, people are strengthened, and quality services are provided to alleviate the conditions and causes of poverty empowering people on their journey to self-sufficiency.
Children and especially children of color are disproportionately affected by poverty. The circle graph below shows the percentage of children in poverty by population numbers in our four counties in southeast Iowa.
