Des Moines County Disaster August 27, 2024
Des Moines County has been declared a disaster due to the storm on August 27th, 2024.
This activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program.
The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program (IIAGP) provides grants of up to $7,000 for households with incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level in the categories of Food Assistance, Personal Property, Home Repair (subcategory of tree debris removal), and Temporary Housing.

Potential applicants have 45 days from the date of the proclamation to submit a claim: Oct. 12, 2024.
We prefer for applications to be done online, however people can make an appointment with our staff to complete applications on the phone or in person.

If applying for Food Assistance with the IIAGP:
- You must have a list of foods that were spoiled/damaged/thrown out. This can be handwritten or typed.
- If you currently have SNAP, you must FIRST apply for Disaster SNAP with HHS. You have 10 days from the storm date to apply. Call SNAP member services at 563-690-5497 and they will mail you an application.
If the applicant has insurance (home owners, renters, vehicle, etc) they must also work with their insurance company. You may qualify to receive funds from both insurance and the IIAGP program.
