In the 2023-2024 school year Community Action of Southeast Iowa supported 19 children in 17 families in Head Start and 16 children in 16 families in Early Head Start who experienced homelessness during the enrollment year.- HS PIR 2023-2024 Community Action of Southeast IowaDomestic violence is common among families who experience homelessness. For many, it is a cause of their homeless situation. Thirty-eight percent of people experiencing domestic violence become homeless at some point in their lives. Studies show that as many as 57% of women experiencing homelessness report domestic violence as its immediate cause. - Supporting Children and Families Experiencing HomelessnessHaving a safe and stable sleeping space is essential to a healthy life. Those who do not have it face many compounding barriers. These can be overcome, but oftentimes require resources and support from several avenues. Our Head Start program and other agency programs endeavor to assist individuals and families with the resources and funding we receive.
