Parents As Teachers (PAT) is an in-home family support program serving Des Moines and Louisa counties.  Funding for the program is through Early Childhood Iowa, the Iowa Department of Human Services and Prevent Child Abuse Iowa.

Vision: that all children will learn, grow and develop to reach their full potential, and that parents are their earliest and best teachers.

At its core Parents as Teachers is relationship-based and parenting-focused.  PAT is brought to parents in their homes by trained Parent Educators whose goal is to help them build on their own strengths using the most up-to-date research on brain science, child development and early learning as they interact with their children.

PAT serves children prenatal through five and incorporates the following components:

  • Personal Home Visits by a Certified Parent Educator
  • Developmental Screening
  • Group Connection Events
  • Resource Network
  • Family Goal Setting
