Parents As Teachers (PAT) is an in-home family support program serving Des Moines county.  Funding for the program is through Early Childhood Iowa, the Iowa Department of Human Services and Prevent Child Abuse Iowa.

Vision: that all children will learn, grow and develop to reach their full potential, and that parents are their earliest and best teachers.

At its core Parents as Teachers is relationship-based and parenting-focused.  PAT is brought to parents in their homes by trained Parent Educators whose goal is to help them build on their own strengths using the most up-to-date research on brain science, child development and early learning as they interact with their children.

PAT serves children prenatal through five and incorporates the following components:

  • Personal Home Visits by a Certified Parent Educator
  • Developmental Screening
  • Group Connection Events
  • Resource Network
  • Family Goal Setting
